Shaker cabinets are a type of cabinet made by the Shakers in the late nineteenth century. The term "Shaker" is derived from the name of the Shakers, a religious sect that originated in Ohio and was headed by Joseph Shakers. They were involved in the abolition of slavery, women's rights, and for-profit businesses.

There are many types of Shaker cabinets. The Shaker term "monogrammed cabinet" may be referring to either plain or highly customized cabinets. Plain cabinets are characterized by their two-tone colors: one that blend into the cabinet frame, and another that match it.

A Shaker cabinet may be one of a series or one that is custom built. It may be simple or very ornate. Some Shaker cabinets are designed with a cornice (or balcony) to form an additional design element. The cabinet styles vary, and a Shaker will have many unique styles in which to display his or her belongings.

Cabinet styles will include: vertical, staggered, or peaked. Cabinet designs will be varied, as will the Shaker cabinets molding. The Shaker name for his or her cabinet design will always be based on the composition of the wood used to make the cabinet.

Custom furniture makers will usually have additional options, including the option of using a leaded, or bismuth-lined, bainite mold. The measurements of the cabinet will determine whether this method is appropriate. If the measurements are too large, leaded mold may be the perfect choice.

The Shaker cabinet molding style has no preferred method of molding. The preferred Shaker cabinet molding style will be determined by the materials used to create the cabinet. Most, if not all, of the top boards of Shaker cabinets are individually hand molded, in panels of cherry wood.

The Shaker cabinets molding style will vary by manufacturer, but most are of identical design. Molded on the four walls of the cabinet and formed into an interior mold. Every Shaker cabinet is completely unique.
