Kitchen cabinet outlets are a growing trend in the kitchen and throughout the home. If you have never installed a kitchen outlet before, you should start with your kitchen electrical panel as it is the easiest place to start. Install an outlet first and you will be able to see what it looks like and see what your options are.

The location of your outlet can greatly affect your decision to replace or not replace your existing outlet. There are many things to consider when selecting the right location. Most outlets need to be mounted high enough so that the electricity will be able to reach all sides of the room but not on top of any cabinets.

It is recommended that you turn the lights out of the way before you start to remove your old outlet. If you have electrical cords that run from your current outlet to the wall, you may want to lay down newspaper or carpeting over your old outlet to keep the heat off of the cords. After you have secured the mounting bracket to the wall, you will be able to slide the power cord into the hole you drilled into the wall. Make sure that you mark where the outlets connect to each other. This is very important because it is very easy to trip yourself when you reach the holes and put the outlet in place.

When you are through with the installation process, you will want to reconnect your power cord to the outlets. Once you have done this, you will need to turn off the power to the cabinet. You can repeat this step when you are finished with the project.

Before you begin to remove the old outlet, you will want to turn off the breaker and disconnect the gas line for safety reasons. Then you will be able to place your new outlet in place without having to worry about your gas running out and the homeowner tripping themselves. The new outlet will fit in just fine and if it does not fit into the space where the old outlet was, simply move it to another spot on the wall.

Pull the cord out of the outlet and secure it in place with screws or clips. Then, flip the switch on the new outlet and plug it into the outlet. If you want to adjust the height of the outlet, you can simply turn the screw on the back of the unit until the switch makes the best fit for the space.

You may want to consider cutting the cord to make it easier to manage if you need to disconnect the circuit breakers when you are done. Place the cord between two small sections of wood and screw them in place using nuts and bolts. This will allow you to pull the cord easily and keep it from falling out of the outlet.

When you have finished your work, you will want to be sure to check the outlet to ensure that there are no other outlets that are in the same area. This could cause a fire and could damage your appliances if it were to happen in the middle of a cooking session.
