Cabinet Height Over Sink - What Every Kitchen Designer Needs to Know

Why is it important to ensure that your cabinet height is correct? And why is this so important for your kitchen countertops? You will find the answers to these questions and more in this article.

The thing is, some people are not very good with their kitchen design, or they are bad designers, and they use high cabinet heights to cover up what should be the problem - with the sink. It is just an unfortunate side effect of too much mixing and matching.

There is a popular myth out there that you can save money by installing a countertop on top of the same-height cabinets as the sinks. Well, this is not true, because if you put the sink at the end of the cabinet (and/or shelf), you are actually increasing the risk of it being tipped over. These countertops are far from safe.

Some say that the shelf on top of the cabinet is not necessary. Well, sometimes it is but sometimes it is a necessity. So, it is always best to install it before you install the sink, if you have the choice.

Other times, it is just a waste of money and precious space to go with a double sink design. It is always better to start with one sink, and then add a second to match the other cabinets.

In this case, the most important factor in cabinet height is to ensure that you make sure the shelves are level. If they are not, your countertop could actually slide off the sink, or if it is high enough, it could tip over, causing a lot of damage to your cabinets and/or countertops.

First of all, just imagine how many times you need to turn your kitchen cabinets work around every day to get the sinks and other things turned around. This can be a lot of work, especially in areas where the cabinets are high and also high to the floor. Also, imagine trying to use a piece of furniture if the shelves are not level, or if they slope at an angle towards the floor.

As far as countertops go, this is really where your money is going. If you want to take the extra time to check the cabinet height properly, you are going to be a lot happier in the long run, because your kitchen countertops will look fantastic, and they will work well.

The next thing you need to keep in mind is that sinks that are shorter than the cabinets are to be used on the top of the cabinets. This is a great way to get an elegant look, but it can cause the countertops to slip down over time. Plus, you have to worry about tipping your sinks over as well.

Now, if you do want to get a "short" sink, you can try using it on top of the right-over-top cabinets, then using it on the bottom or side of the countertop. Just make sure that you don't slant the sink too much, otherwise it could knock the cabinets off their bases.

When you have two sinks of the same height, you may want to try putting them side-by-side on the cabinets. If you do this, the right-over-top ones should go on the bottom of the cabinets, and the short sinks should go on the top. The main point is to get the side-by-side ones close enough together that you don't have to worry about the sinks sliding around.

Most cabinets come with very few inlays. This is another thing to consider. If you find that the cabinets that came with your countertop were done so poorly that they can hold any type of hardware, you may be able to replace them with something better.
