How to Install Cabinet Height Above Counter

When you are remodeling your kitchen or bathroom, you will want to make sure that the cabinets are installed at a height above the counter so that you can get maximum utilization of the space. First, be sure to measure the area where you plan to place the cabinets. Also, measure from where the edges of the cabinets start to join to the counters. When you want to be sure about your measurements, you can measure with the measuring tape or measure against a wall stud first to make sure that the measurements are correct.

Then, measure from the edge of the counter to the opposite edge of the shelf or countertop. You want to make sure that there is an equal distance between the two points so that there is no play in the counter or the shelf. It is easier to install a cabinet if the distance is equal between the two. The last thing you want is to install the shelf and have the cabinet move slightly when you open the door or close the door.

Then, measure from the top of the shelf or countertop to the top of the cabinets. Again, be sure to measure against the wall stud to be sure the measurement is correct. If you installed a wood shelf, you will want to make sure the height is not less than the height of the counter. If you installed a metal shelf, you will want to make sure that the height is equal to the height of the counter.

Finally, when you are installing the cabinet height above the counter, you will want to keep in mind that you have plenty of elbow room at the top of the cabinets. It is easier to work if you have some room around the top of the cabinet, so make sure to take advantage of the space. Remember, you don't want to cut the space at the top of the cabinets to make a straight line. You will want the top of the cabinets to show through the surface of the counter so that it looks neat and clean.

Now, all you have to do is use the tape measure round the corner to measure the angles of the countertops and be sure they are even. Then, measure to the left and right of the angle that you made to ensure you are measuring from the right to the left. It is also a good idea to make sure the distance between the points is the same on both sides. This way, you will know for sure that the angles on the sides are the same.

Once you have measured the angles, it is easy to install the cabinet height above the counter. Simply install the shelves or the cabinet, and place the shelves or the cabinet at the desired height. It doesn't take much to install the cabinets to the exact height.
